Music is where my passion truly lies. Being a musician and playing instruments from a really young age this has always been a topic close to my heart, and something that just gives me that buzz and overwhelming feeling of this is where I’m meant to be when doing so. Not only do I know about the instruments, how to follow that feel for the music and what to look for, but I also know what it’s like to be on the other side of the camera. It’s daunting, and if it’s a new experience for you then you can feel out of your comfort zone. My approach to filming musicians and bands is to make them feel as comfortable as possible and give direction where appropriate to ensure the vibe is being captured through the lens.
I like to follow a narrative for my videography for music. Just how it’s important for a song to build as it grows in structure and in emotion, I feel its important for the video to follow that also. I love to play with the speed and motion of the camera to emphasise the emotion and the intent of the song, to really bring out what is intended for the listener to hear, through what they see.
